Texas Governor Vows to Continue Busing Migrants to Sanctuary Cities

Texas Governor Greg Abbott declared during a keynote address at the New York Republican Party’s annual gala that Texas would persist in busing illegal immigrants to sanctuary cities “until we get a new president.”

This statement was made just hours after New York City Mayor Eric Adams criticized Abbott’s response to the crisis and extended an invitation for Abbott to stay at one of New York City’s migrant shelters.

Speaking at the event, Abbott criticized Mayor Adams, highlighting the disparity between New York City’s migrant intake and the daily influx experienced by Texas. He also took aim at President Biden, questioning the president’s assertion that Congressional intervention was necessary to address illegal immigration.

According to Abbott, the executive branch holds the authority, and indeed the obligation mandated by Congress, to prevent illegal entry into the United States, which he alleges Biden has failed to do.

Joining Abbott at the gala were prominent Republicans including House GOP Chair Rep. Elise Stefanik and Republican National Committee Chair Michael Whatley.

Stefanik emphasized the impact of President Biden’s policies, asserting that they had effectively transformed every state into a border state. She pledged that Republicans, under the leadership of former President Trump, would prioritize securing the border.

Prior to Abbott’s arrival in New York City, Mayor Adams criticized Abbott’s handling of the migrant crisis and jokingly offered him accommodation at a migrant shelter to witness firsthand the conditions faced by migrants.

Adams highlighted the city’s efforts in providing dignified treatment to migrants and implied a contrast with Abbott’s approach.
