Texas Supreme Court Justice John Devine under Scrutiny for Impartiality Amidst Allegations of Democratic Election Interference

A recent viral clip has sparked concerns about the impartiality of Texas Supreme Court Justice John Devine, as he seemingly insinuated that Democrats might resort to cheating in the 2024 election against presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

Speaking at the Texas Tea Party Republican Women’s 2023 Christmas event, Devine questioned, “Do you really think the Democrats are going to roll over and let Trump be president again?” He further added, “You think they’re just going to go away, all of a sudden find Jesus and [there will] be an honest election? I don’t think so.”

Known for his past activism against abortion and skepticism towards the concept of church-state separation, Devine’s remarks have drawn attention to his alignment with conservative, Christian values. Having narrowly survived a recent GOP primary challenge focused on his ethics, he now faces Democrat Christine Vinh Weems in the upcoming November general election.

Devine also criticized Harris County for its election protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic, which were subsequently overturned by the Texas Supreme Court. He warned of a declining culture and urged attendees to strengthen their faith.

Despite the backlash and online criticism, Devine has remained silent on the matter. This controversy comes on the heels of previous speeches where he accused Democrats of attempting to manipulate elections and criticized his colleagues on the Texas Supreme Court.

Moreover, Devine’s ethical conduct has come under scrutiny, with reports indicating his absenteeism from court proceedings during his reelection campaign earlier this year.
