Biden Trails Trump in Key Battleground States

A recent poll indicates that President Joe Biden is trailing his expected Republican adversary, former President Donald Trump, across the battleground states pivotal in determining the outcome of the 2020 election.

According to findings from a survey conducted by The Wall Street Journal, released on Tuesday, Trump holds a lead over Biden in most of the key 2024 battleground states, even when considering potential third-party candidates.

The sole exception to this trend is Wisconsin, where Biden and Trump are statistically tied in a one-on-one matchup, but Biden pulls ahead by three points when alternative candidate options are presented.

In states such as Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania, Trump maintains an advantage over Biden in direct head-to-head competition. Trump’s lead ranges from a narrow one-point margin in Georgia to a more substantial six-point lead in North Carolina.

When third-party and independent candidates are factored in, Trump’s lead strengthens in Georgia and North Carolina, albeit slightly diminishing in Michigan.

Biden’s underperformance in these pivotal states seems to stem from voters’ dissatisfaction with his handling of critical issues such as the economy and immigration. Trump receives notably higher approval ratings than Biden on these fronts, holding a 54% to 34% advantage on economic matters and a 52% to 32% edge on immigration. Additionally, Trump is perceived as more mentally and physically capable of managing the presidency, leading Biden by a margin of 48% to 28%, as per The Wall Street Journal Poll.

However, Biden enjoys an advantage over Trump regarding abortion, with 45% of voters supporting Biden’s stance compared to 33% in favor of Trump’s position.

Noteworthy Democratic strategist James Carville has raised concerns within the party regarding Biden’s flagging poll numbers.

Internally, Biden and his team are reportedly troubled by his dwindling approval ratings among voters. Allegedly, Biden expresses frustration during strategy sessions, attributing the primary issue to ineffective communication about his achievements rather than his policy agenda.

This predicament seems to have strained Biden’s relationships with certain Democratic allies.
