Felix Martinez was a prominent figure in the community, founding the El Paso Reality Company, organizer of the Southwestern Portland Cement Company, and was on the board of Directors of the First National Bank of El Paso. Martinez founded the El Paso Telegraph in 1897. From 1899 to 1909, he also published El Paso Daily News. Martinez recognized the need for reliable sources of news and information in El Paso. In 1897, he spearheaded the establishment of these newspapers under the El Paso Publishing Co., laying the foundation for what would become an enduring institution in the city’s history.
